PC-DOCTOR SPONSORS COMPUTER SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION FOR UC DAVIS STUDENTS
Two $2,500 Scholarships to Be Awarded
RENO, Nev. (May 3, 2006) — PC-Doctor Inc. (www.pc-doctor.com) today announced a scholarship contest open to declared computer science majors attending the University of California at Davis. Two winners — one male student and one female student — will each be awarded $2,500 each during the 2006-2007 academic year.
The contest — which includes an online programming test and interviews with the top three male and three female finalists — is open to currently enrolled UC Davis students with a declared Computer Science (CS) major or a declared Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) major who plan to attend the Fall Quarter in 2006.
"We’ve hired a number of excellent UC Davis graduates as software developers, so we thought this would be a great way to give back to the students, the department, and the campus community," said Ken Sheppard, PC-Doctor’s chief technology officer and a graduate of the UC Davis Computer Science and Engineering department.
Students interested in participating in the contest can register online at http://www.pc-doctor.com/scholarship/registration.php before May 10, 2006. Once registered, they will receive participation instructions and login information to be used on contest day.
The contest consists of two parts: An online programming test given on Saturday, May 13 and follow-up interviews on Monday, May 22 for the top three male and female finalists.
On Saturday, May 13, registered contestants will have 12 hours (7am to 7pm, Pacific Daylight Time) to log in and complete the online programming test. This test will consist of C++ programming problems and computer science questions designed to evaluate the software developer’s design, development, and problem-solving skills.
Tests will be scored on correct results, bugs, code design methodologies, and algorithmic choices. Additional points may be awarded for creativity, robustness, and cross-platform compatibility.
Once the tests are scored, the top three male and female students will be invited to on-campus interview sessions on Monday, May 22, to discuss their answers.
One male and one female winner of the interview segment will each receive a $2,500 scholarship.
