Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide detailed instructions on enabling debug logs within PC-Doctor Toolbox. Debug logs can useful for support if you are experiencing an issue with the program.

Description

Automated Debug log Creation

To generate debug logs automatically then you first need to obtain a debuglog script from technical support, then follow these directions.

  1. You will receive an email with links to download two files. EnableDebugging and zip. Download these files to your desktop.
  2. Run EnableDebugging by double clicking the file.
  3. Follow the directions in the prompt
  4. Upon completion email the two files that were created on your Desktop (log and log 2)

Manual Debug log Creation

Note: Please do not enable the debug logs unless explicitly asked to so by the support team.

  1. Navigate to the ‘C:\ProgramData\PC-Doctor Toolbox for Windows’ folder using Windows Explorer.

  2. Right click on the empty space within the folder and navigate to New>Folder.

  3. Rename the newly created folder to ‘logs’ (without the quotes). The folder should look as the screenshot below:debug3
  4. Open a command prompt as Administrator.
    1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
    2. Right-click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

    Note:
    If you are running Windows 8/10 please complete following:
    1. If not on the desktop, click the desktop icon
    2. Move the mouse cursor to the lower left corner of the desktop
    3. Right click to bring up menu options
    4. Click on ‘Command Prompt (Admin)

    Note: If you are running Windows 7 please complete following:
    1. Click the ‘Start’ icon
    2. Type ‘cmd’ into the search box.

  5. Navigate to the PC-Doctor Toolbox install directory by inputting the following command into the command prompt window:

    cd C:\Program Files\PC-Doctor Toolbox for Windows

    and press Enter.

  6. Enter the command "pcdrcui.exe -enabledebuglogs" (without quotes) and press Enter.
    Note: Leave the Command Prompt open, we will need it later.

  7. Now please attempt to reproduce the issue you were experiencing.
  8. Once the issue has occurred, please navigate to the C:\Program Files\PC-Doctor Toolbox for Windows directory and zip up the ‘logs’ folder by right clicking on it and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder.

  9. Navigate to the C:\Programdata\PCDr\6554 directory.
  10. Right click on the ‘logs’ folder and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder.sendtob

To disable debug logging:

  1. Navigate back to the command prompt window that was left open from step 5 in the above process.
  2. Enter the command “pcdrcui.exe -disabledebuglogs" (without quotes) and press Enter. disabledebug
